The late, lamented John Hartford (best known for “Gentle on my Mind”) wrote a number of songs anent life on the Mississippi. “In the chorus of “Let Him Go on Mama” he refers to the consistency of the River as “…too thick to navigate, and it’s too thin to plow….”
My back yard’s pretty close to that now. My dogs used to be white.
I think I saw squirrel treading water in my backyard too.
